3Price a bundle, then price it separately

Combining your home and auto insurance with one company is a common way to earn a multi-policy discount. Some insurers extend similar savings when you add an umbrella, life or other policy. If your policies are spread across different companies, bundling may be an easy win.

The catch is that a bundle is not always cheaper. Two strong individual prices from two different companies can sometimes beat a bundled price, even after the discount. So run the numbers both ways. Ask for a bundled quote and separate quotes, keeping the same limits and deductibles across the board, then compare the totals.

Look beyond the bottom line too. Bundling usually means one company to call when something goes wrong, sometimes a single deductible when the same event damages both your home and car, and fewer bills to track. Some people find that worth a small price difference. Whatever you choose, make the decision with real quotes in hand rather than assumptions.
