2Free streaming for movies, shows and music
Many library systems partner with streaming services that let cardholders watch films, documentaries and TV series, or listen to music, at no cost. The catalogs often lean toward independent films, classic movies, educational series and children's programming, which can be a nice change from the usual subscription lineups.
There's usually a limit on how many titles you can stream each month, and the selection varies from one library to the next. Still, for occasional viewers it can be a handy way to watch something new without adding another monthly charge to your card. Look for the streaming links on your library's website or ask staff how to sign in.
Don't forget physical media either. Many branches still lend DVDs, audiobooks on disc and music CDs, and some even carry video games and board games. If you've been paying for several streaming services, rotating one out and leaning on the library for a while can help you see how much you really miss it.
