4The gym membership you meant to use
Few subscriptions carry as much good intention as a gym membership. People sign up during a burst of motivation, use it for a while, and then life gets busy. The monthly charge keeps going whether you show up or not.
Be honest about how often you've gone recently. If the answer is rarely, compare the membership with alternatives such as a pay-per-visit option, a community recreation center, workout videos at home or simply walking and running outside. Some gyms also offer a freeze option if you expect to return soon.
Canceling a gym membership can be harder than signing up. Some require written notice, an in-person visit or a set notice period, and some contracts include yearly maintenance fees. Read your agreement, keep a record of when and how you canceled, and watch your next statement to make sure the charges actually stop. If they don't, your card issuer may be able to help.
