6Your home and car are insured with different companies
Many insurers offer a discount when you carry more than one policy with them, most often home and auto together. If your car is with one company and your house is with another, you may be missing out on that savings. It is one of the most common discounts, and also one of the easiest to overlook.
That said, bundling is not automatically the cheaper choice. Sometimes two separate policies from two different companies still cost less than a bundle, even after the discount. The only way to know is to get quotes both ways, with the same coverage, and add up the totals.
When you compare, look past the price. Check that coverage limits, deductibles and optional extras match, and think about convenience. A single company can mean one bill and one place to call, which some people value. Others prefer to keep the best individual price for each policy. Neither approach is wrong, as long as you are choosing on purpose rather than by accident.
