7You're still paying for extras you no longer need

Policies tend to collect add-ons over the years. Maybe you scheduled a ring you have since sold, added coverage for a home business you closed, or insured a shed, pool or detached structure that is no longer there. Each of those may still be on your bill, quietly adding to your premium.

Once a year, read through your declarations page line by line. Look for scheduled items, endorsements and other structures, and ask yourself whether each one still describes your life. If you are not sure what an item covers, ask your agent to explain it in plain language before deciding anything.

Be careful not to cut something you actually need. Some endorsements, such as coverage for water backing up through drains, can be valuable even if you have never used them. The aim is to drop what no longer applies, not to strip your policy down to the bare minimum. A short review can trim your bill while keeping the protection that matters most.
